About Me.
Hello, I’m Beth, or Bessie, as my grandparents used to call me!
Creativity has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My early engagement with art has since informed my understanding of its therapeutic and transformative potential. I’m now a qualified HCPC registered Art Psychotherapist, with a Master’s degree in Art Therapy, and my work is rooted in using art as a gentle and meaningful way to explore emotions, experiences, and healing.
My research and practice focus on childhood and generational trauma, complex PTSD, and post-traumatic growth through art therapy. I’m particularly interested in how creative expression can support recovery, resilience, self-understanding, and personal growth following difficult or traumatic experiences. My research on this subject was recognised with an award from the University of Chester, reflecting its contribution to understanding the role of art therapy in healing. In my practice, I've worked with adults experiencing enduring mental health challenges, as well as children and young people who have been through trauma. I believe art can offer a voice when words feel hard to find, and a safe space to explore what’s going on inside.
Before training as a therapist, I spent over a decade working professionally in the creative industry. My background includes teaching GCSE, A-level and adult art classes, managing a textile design team, and working on illustration projects for brands such as Louis Vuitton and Dior. In 2018, I became North West Regional Director at the Society of British & International Design, and in 2022 I was honoured to be named Creative Professional of the Year at the Manchester Young Talent Awards.
Whether through therapy, workshops, or creative projects, my aim is always the same: to create a warm, supportive space where people feel safe to explore, express, and reconnect with themselves through art.
